World Book Week was great fun and it was wonderful to see the children and staff dressed up in their costumes. This week we have had a door decorating competition, where each classroom door has been turned into the cover of a book and a ‘Whole School Read’ took place, where the older children have shared books with the younger children in the school. We have also had a visit and subsequent talks by Martin Jenkins and each class has taken part in book-related activities. The week culminated in a fantastic gathering of all of the book characters and we even had a visit from a huge dinosaur, courtesy of Maxi in Year 5! All children who wore a costume were awarded 2 House Points.
Mr. Fletcher, one of our governors, chose 3 of his favourite outfits from across the whole school and awarded them prizes. They were Athena – worn by Vera Laine in Nursery, Freya from “How To Catch a Mermaid” – worn by Lottie in Year 2, and Dudley – worn by Finlay in Year 6. All of the staff dressed up too and Mr. Fletcher chose The Three Crayons to give his special prize to. Thank you to all of you for helping your child to create their costumes and well done to everyone.
We also had a competition, “reading in unusual places”, as you can see our children really thought outside of the box this year!
