The EYFS Curriculum is split into 7 areas of learning and developments:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
- Physical development
- Communication and Language
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
- Expressive Art and Design
At The Lyceum, learning is brought to life by linking subjects thoughtfully through topic themes such as Animals, Dinosaurs and Space. Topics link subjects creatively to support the pupils’ development of Literacy and Maths skills.
Mealtimes
Snack and lunchtime are supervised by members of the EYFS team and we closely monitor the eating habits of all children. At lunchtime, everyone eats in our beautiful canteen, which has murals of the city skyline, and individual dietary requirements/allergies are catered for. Children are provided with a range of healthy lunches and regularly enjoy themed meals which link to their learning and national celebrations.
Emotional Wellbeing
As a school, we are proud of our calm, happy atmosphere which is felt by all as they enter the building. In EYFS, ensuring children feel safe and are kind and happy is at the heart of everything we do. We encourage all children to share how they are feeling at the beginning of each day, and have a visual chart on the wall to allow communication of feelings across the day. Regular Circle Time lessons take place, exploring all aspects of personal, social and emotional development (PSED) and assemblies often link to wellbeing and mental health. Children are supported by the dedicated team to navigate any obstacles they face and are encouraged to have a growth mindset.
